What is the International Fireknife Competition SIVA AFI TAHITI 2025?
It is an international fire knife dance competition, open to Polynesian and international participants aged 5 and over. It will take place on November 28 and 29, 2025 at the Tahiti by Pearl Resorts.
What are the competition categories?

What are the registration fees?
- “International Men’s Solo” category : 8,000 F CFP
- “International Women’s Solo” category : 8,000 F CFP
- “International Intermediate Solo” category : 5,000 F CFP
- “International Junior Solo” category : 3,500 F CFP
- “International Duo” category : 5,000 F CFP
- “International Group” category : 10,000 F CFP
How can I register for the competition?
Registrations are made online via the official SIVA AFI TAHITI website. The registration deadline is October 31, 2025 at midnight.
Can I participate in multiple categories?
Yes, Polynesian participants can register in both Senior Polynesia categories and also for the International provided they have already won a podium title in previous competitions in Tahiti or internationally.
Is there a mandatory information meeting?
Yes, all participants must attend an orientation and information meeting where the rules and safety will be reviewed. Specific information for this meeting will be sent by email to each participant.
What are the requirements for equipment (fire knives)?
Each participant must have three dance knives: one single knife and two double knives. All knives must be made of hard metal and may have a wooden or metal handle. They must strictly comply with the specific standards of the competition and will be checked by the jury. It is important to note that knives cannot be shared between participants under any circumstances.
What are the judges' scoring criteria?
Judges will evaluate based on several criteria:
- Height of throws.
- Difficulty of movements.
- Fluidity, speed and control.
- Energy and expression of movements.
- 3 points will be deducted for each knife dropped.
Who is allowed backstage?
Only competitors are allowed backstage. Accompanying persons, as well as the responsible teachers, must obtain an official access PASS to enter backstage. Any access request must be previously approved by the organizer.
What costumes are required?
Competitors must wear a Polynesian printed lava lava and a Polynesian necklace. Face war paint and a head crown are also mandatory.
What are the safety measures regarding fire?
Each competitor must have a wet towel to put out the fire in case of emergency. All special effects must be approved by the organizer before the competition.
How do I get access to the competition on D-day?
Competitors must present themselves at the entrance to the Tahiti by Pearl Resorts to collect their number and their passes before accessing the boxes.
What behaviors are prohibited during the event?
The consumption of alcohol, drugs and tobacco (outside designated areas) is strictly prohibited for all participants and accompanying persons. Sportsmanlike behavior is expected from all.
Can I share my fire knife with another competitor?
No, sharing knives during the competition is strictly forbidden. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification of the competitors involved.
